About Us

Nestled in the heart of St Leonards on Sea, just steps from the beach, our ceramics and pottery studio opened its doors in October 2021. We are dedicated to nurturing creativity and skill in both beginners and experienced makers, offering a welcoming space to explore the art of ceramics.

What We Offer Our focus is on teaching wheel throwing and hand building, with a special emphasis on glaze application using poured and dipped glazes. Whether you’re new to clay or looking to refine your techniques, our courses—typically running for 10 weeks—provide ample one-on-one time with our experienced teachers.

Our Studio The main teaching studio is fully equipped for all your ceramic needs, featuring:

  • 9 Shimpo wheels

  • Hand building equipment and tools

  • An extruder

  • 30 in-house glazes, 15 coloured slips, underglazes, and oxides

Membership & Community For those ready to work independently, we offer two membership options and add-on sessions in our dedicated members’ room, Clayhouse, or the Main Studio. All students and members benefit from workshops led by guest potters and our skilled teachers, designed to further your skills and inspire creativity.

Beyond the Studio We are proud to extend our work into the community, offering workshops, taster sessions, and partnerships with local organisations and businesses.

Taster Sessions and Workshops

Work-Study Studio Assistant

Our Work-Study Studio Assistant program offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in all aspects of running a ceramics studio. Assistants support daily tasks such as recycling clay, making glazes and slips, and packing kilns. In exchange for 3 hours of studio work, assistants receive 3 hours of tuition.

We welcome applications from currently enrolled students, members, and those interested in ceramics—whether you’re studying, recently graduated, or simply passionate about clay.

Guest Potters & Residencies

Our sessions are led by local teachers with years of experience. We embrace cross-disciplinary learning and regularly host guest potters, artists, and makers. We also welcome residential potters from around the world who wish to exchange ideas and use our studio.

If you’re interested in becoming a guest teacher or potter, we’d love to hear from you.
