Ceramics Studio - Membership and Add On Class

There are few options for open access which provides the opportunity to work on your own in a supportive, creative and well-equipped studio. We believe in sharing experience and time spent working with the materials, this is the most effective approach to continuing your practice and development of skills and techniques. Open access will be suitable for those who are able work independently and gain more experience or just have the free time to experiment or exchange ideas with other members.

Please note that the studio cannot accommodate production potters who wish to use the studio as a means of commercial activity. There is limited kiln space and cannot accommodate large quantities of work to be fired.

All abilities are welcome to become members, but you should have a minimum of 1 year of taking classes with our studio or equivalent elsewhere or a practice with good knowledge of working with clay and glazing. For the safety of our kilns, equipment and other students work open access members must have this experience.

Students and members will have priority booking to workshop and courses, the opportunity to become a studio assistant through work-exchange and take part in selling opportunities and exhibitions that will take place in the studio or at other local businesses.

WHAT IS PROVIDED:

Access to your own wheel, extruder, hand building equipment, tools, glazes and clay. Included in the costs are a large range of dipped glazes, slips, oxides and other decorating mediums. Those who wish to bring their own paint on glazes or clay may be permitted but discussed in advance with a teacher if they will be suitable for the kilns and firing temperatures (1240 degrees).

OPEN ACCESS MEMBER- NEW

We have a dedicated room for members with access 7 days per week for those who already have experience working with ceramics and can work independently. New members to the studio must be able to demonstrate that they are able to work with clay, including preparing the clay, techniques in hand building or wheel throwing, glazing and decoration. Working without the assistance of a teacher or a technician your practice can be supported by attending our mentoring sessions and workshops with one of our teachers throughout the year.

ADD ON CLASS

Is suitable for those currently enrolled in one of our courses and wish to have extra time working on their own. During these sessions you will need to work independently and teaching will not be provided. These sessions offer the extra time needed for you to practice and refine your skills outside your regular weekly classes. Booking is for one 3-hour session each week Monday-Thursday 10am-1pm or 6-9pm and on Fridays mornings 10am-1pm.
