In Focus Workshop: Practical Glazing and Kiln Loading
One Day Workshop
Date: Saturday 5th December 2026
Time: 10:00am - 3:00pm
Teacher: Kim Kish
Fee: £55.00
In this one day workshop, we will discuss the application of glazes and how to achieve the best results from using dipped and pouring glazes. Working with the studio glazes, we will review the traits of each glaze, what is in glaze, achieving successful layering combinations and how to control the application. There will be time to discuss the purpose and use of oxides, engobes, underglazes and slips and importance of keeping sketchbooks and notes.
This is a rare opportunity to visit the kiln room to load your pieces into a glaze fire and discuss a glaze and bisque firing and how temperature affects the clay and glaze.
WHAT TO BRING WITH YOU:
Students should bring up to small 4 bisque pieces for the glaze application and firing. It’s not essential to bring bisque firing pieces but will help practice the application. Glaze firing charge of £7.00 per kilo for students who have used our clay.
Lunch is not provided but there are several cafes and restaurants in the area. The beach is located directly across from the studio and if the weather is suitable is a perfect spot to have lunch and a swim in the sea.
