In Focus: Alternative Slipware

This workshop is suitable for all levels of experience and limited to 8 students, aged 18+.

Experiment, play and discover new possibilities with slip in this hands-on half-day workshop with Kim Kish.

Slip offers an exciting world of colour, texture and surface decoration — and there are far more possibilities than simply painting it onto a pot. In this exploratory workshop, Kim will introduce you to a range of alternative slip techniques and encourage you to experiment, layer and push the material in unexpected directions.

Working with coloured and layered slips, we’ll explore incorporating organic materials, resists, metals and local wild clay, using brushes, our hands and a variety of other materials to create rich surfaces, texture and depth.

The emphasis is on experimentation and discovery. We’ll work with test tiles, trying out different combinations and techniques while keeping useful notes so you can develop your ideas and revisit them in your own practice.

You’re also welcome to bring a few of your own leather hard test pieces, wheel-thrown or hand-built. You can take your test tiles with you or have them fired in the studio at an additional charge of £3.50 for bisque fire or £7.00 for glaze fire.

Additional pieces will be charged at £7.00 for glaze firing or £3.50 for bisque fire.

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT:

All of the tools, equipment, clay and pigment will be provided.

WHAT TO BRING WITH YOU:

Bring a notebook, small hand towel, apron and your own leather-hard pots to work on or use test tiles/extrusions provided

Please ensure you can attend the workshop you have booked as we cannot offer refunds less than 14 days notice, unless we are able to fill your place with another student. Please get in touch and we will do our best.
