Practical Glazing and Kiln Loading
One Day Workshop

This workshop is limited to 9 students and suitable for existing students and those wanting to develop their experience of working with glazes. Age 18+.
In this half day workshop, we will discuss the application of glazes and how to achieve the best results from using dipped and pouring glazes. Working with the studio glazes, we will review the traits of each glaze, what is in glaze, achieving successful layering combinations and how to control the application.

There will be time to discuss the purpose and use of oxides, engobes, underglazes and slips and importance of keeping sketchbooks and notes.

This is also a rare opportunity to visit the kiln room to load your pieces into a glaze fire and discuss a glaze and bisque firing and how temperature affects the clay and glaze.

WHAT TO BRING WITH YOU:

Students can bring up to 4 pieces each for the glaze application and firing and normal glazing weight and pay fees apply.  It’s not essential to bring pieces for the firing, but will give you the opportunity for application. For attendees outside the studio, there is a firing charge of £7.00 per kilo.
